"Content Management" refers to the updating of content (text and pictures etc.) on existing pages, and the creation and editing of new pages as required including the automatic expansion of the navigation system to cater for new pages. Obviously, pages may be deleted as well as added. Here we are talking about maintenance of "static" web pages rather than the maintenance of departments and products available within an e-commerce site.

Should you require a content management system then we implement our own in-house solution. A content management system is not essential to keep a site up to date - other tools can be used, either by our client or by ourselves. A content management system is useful on larger sites with frequent content and structure changes that need to be managed by the client.

The content management system consists of two main elements:

1: Section and Page Management.

This area allows the user to define the site structure (to the number of levels agreed).

New sections and sub sections (etc.) can be set up, and items can be moved "up and down". The navigation system is automatically updated.

Sections can also be deleted or renamed as required.

Where appropriate there are links to "Edit" the pages themselves. When an "edit link" is clicked on then the selected page is opened up in the editing screen below:
2. Page Editing

When a page is selected for editing (either an existing page or a new blank page just created using the tool above), then the page opens up within the editing tool embedded into the page.

This will include many of the tools available in a word processor, including text formatting, layout control using tables, insert images and so on.

It is also possible to view the HTML code and insert code directly should the desire arise!

Once changes are complete, the document is saved and becomes live.

It is possible to write the system so that new or updated pages are saved and submitted to a supervisor for approval before the live site is updated.
